My deepest sympathies with the passing of your father. Bernie was my neighbour for 45 years. He was the best neighbour you could ask for. Always ready with a helping hand. We have exchanged many a story in all those years. He will be greatly missed.

Dear Family of Bernie,
We are very sorry about the loss of your Dad. Bernie has been a wonderful neighbour to me over the years. He used to bring me home my favourite Treacle toffee from his visits home to England. I will miss our daily driveway chats, as he shared all about his daughters, his grand kids and the grand fur babies . We will truly miss him. Please know that we are sharing in your sadness as you remember your Dad.

We are all heartbroken to hear of the loss of Uncle Bernie. Auntie Margaret and Uncle Bernie moved to Canada before I was born; I only knew them through their much anticipated trips back to the UK and yet it always felt they were such a major part of my childhood. We used to all know when they were coming and counted the days! It was always such a happy time when they were with us – we went on countless days out and had so many get-togethers. I look back on every single one as a time of great happiness and love. In more recent times, I’d often go to the airport when they arrived for Uncle Bernie to follow me back to Mum and Dad’s house. It always amazed me how he could swap from one side of the road to the other with such ease! And at those times, he was always SO grateful for any tiny thing I did for him and Auntie Margaret. I’d show him something he’d asked about and I can hear his voice saying, “Ok. That’s great that, thanks kid,” as clearly as if he were here now. I also remember the countless times Mum and Dad visited Canada - they were always made so welcome. It is also a treasured memory that they met me at the airport with ‘WELCOME’ signs when I visited Canada with my school choir as a teenager. No-one else got that welcome! They were so kind to Mum when Dad died. I will never forget opening the door to them when they came over after he’d gone. They shared our grief. I will treasure the little wooden chair that is in my living room that Uncle Bernie made for me. Both my children have played with it and it will always be a part of my home wherever I live. You are already so much missed, Uncle Bernie. My heart goes out to my Mum, all of my cousins in Canada and extended family. May you Rest in Peace, Dear Uncle Bernie xx
