Obituary of Fred George Polihronis

POLIHRONIS, Photios (Fred) - Passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Saturday, July 24th, 2021 at the St Catharines Hospital at the age of 92. Beloved husband of Garyfalia. Cherished father of Angelo (Betsy), Freida (John) and Nicky.  Loving Papou of Christina, Helen, Christina, Yianna and Alexa. Brother of Nick and Nicky. He is predeceased by his sister Dimitroula and his brother Ted. Fred was born in Greece and immigrated to Canada in 1950. He started working at the Victoria Restaurant in downtown St Catharines in the early 50s. He went back to Greece in 1957 and married his beloved wife Garyfalia. In 1961, he and his partners Ted Polihronis and Nick Nicholaides opened up the first of three Lancer Restaurants in St Catharines until he retired in1978. Fred was an avid gardener. He loved his walks to McDonalds’s to meet his buddies for their morning coffee, followed by playing Chess at the Pen Centre with his friends. Fred also enjoyed traveling to his vacation home in Florida and back to his beloved Greece with Garyfalia in the summer time. He loved to cook for all of his family and continued to cook well into his nineties. He was a very loving man who loved his family very much. The family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton Street, St Catharines, on Monday, July 26th from 6-8p.m. A Trice Holy Hymn/Trisagio will take place followed by a Funeral Service at St Katharine Greek Orthodox Church, 585 Niagara Street, St Catharines on Tuesday, July 27th at 12p.m. The final Trice Holy Hymn/ Trisagio and Burial will occur at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Due to Covid-19 guidelines, anyone wishing to attend the Funeral at the Church must call the funeral home to notify of your attendance. Seating at the Church is limited to 80 people. All guests must wear a mask. Memorial donations to St Katharine Greek Orthodox Church would be appreciated by the family.
