SMITH, Carol Jean (nee Meisner)
After her second courageous battle with cancer, nine years apart, Carol passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at the age of 60. Devoted wife of 23 years to Joe. Loving mother to Christopher (Kelsey) and Samantha. Cherished sister of Sandra and Jo Anne (Steve), sisters-in-law, Mary (Peter) and Irene, aunt to Carrie, Crystal (Jeff), Brent (Michelle), Jeffrey, Rene (Jen), Kevin (Lindsay), Cheryl (Rick), many great-nieces, great-nephews, her much loved family in Nova Scotia, and her sister-at-heart Loretta. Carol was predeceased by her parents, Lawrence and Valentine Meisner, mother-in-law, Annie Smith, niece, Carly Monych (Ben) and brother-in-law, Mike Dunphy.
Carol was born in Berwick, Nova Scotia on August 7, 1961. She moved to Ontario with her family in 1970 but her heart has always belonged to her beloved Nova Scotia. Carol chose the profession of a health care provider because she was a gentle soul and liked helping people. She was in this profession until cancer forced her to give it up. Carol loved to garden, spend time with family and pamper her cat, Sandy.
The family would like to thank Carol’s home health care team and also her health care team at St. Catharines General Hospital and Walker Family Cancer Centre. Carol had many health care workers over the last few months. For fear of leaving someone out we will not personally name each person. You know who you are and you are truly appreciated.
In keeping with Carol’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held at George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Tuesday, September 21 at 12:00 p.m. If desired, memorial donations can be made to Wellspring Niagara or the Walker Family Cancer Centre.
