Obituary of Emma Peracchia
PERACCHIA, Emma (nee Ferretti)
Passed away peacefully at Etobicoke General Hospital on December 23, 2021 at the age of 94. Beloved wife of the late Cesarino (2011). Devoted Mother of Gabriele (Danielle Wang), and Maria. Cherished Nonna of Julia, Carmine, Adrina and Nathan. She will be dearly missed by her brother Pasquale Ferretti, nieces, nephews and extended family. Predeceased by her brother Armando and sisters-in-law Iolanda and Anna.
Born in Atri, Italy, the youngest in a family of 3, she grew up in the hilly countryside overlooking the Adriatic Sea. Emma married at the age of 26 and immigrated 8 days later to Canada, where her entire family eventually settled. She had a passion for crafts including: sewing, dress making, baking, crochet, knitting, embroidery and pottery. Emma worked seasonally for many years on the fruit farms, canning factories and the laundromat.
For her children, she was: a mother of whom they could not possibly have asked more; a friend like no other; and, for all that she endured and all that she overcame, nothing less then a true Hero. Her legacy is her example of resilience and perseverance, endurance and longevity, fortitude in the face of fear, and hope in the face of despair. Those of us who loved her, and now escort her to her final rest, could scarcely do better than to relay to the rest of humanity, and to all other living things, the same love, warmth, care and affection that she so generously, and so tirelessly rendered to us all of our lives.
