With deepest sympathy to all the family and friends, I am so sorry for your loss. As a childhood neighbour and friend I have many memories of myself and Phil as kids weightlifting, partnering up for school projects, listening to good rock music on vinyl, buying our first concert shirts and basically just being kids. Your sporting a top hat and dancing to ‘Puttin’ on the Ritz’ will never be beat! Thanks for the memories Phil, you are forever in my my heart.

Phil was one of my favourite students @ Dalewood. I have often wondered what became of him-that's something I do as a teacher for certain students. If memory serves, he was quite the artist and a very interesting, funny student who brightened up my classroom any time he was there-which was for grade 7. I am heartbroken to know he has passed. My prayers are with the family and his many friends. Blessings to all of you.

I was lucky to know this fantastic fellow in Grade 8. And even luckier to see him perform Puttin' on The Ritz at a Dalewood Talent Show. For his family and friends, grief is the price we pay for love. He is still with you till the last person says his name. Luckily you will have years of memories to tell! Your loss is truly a tragedy. Rest in peace Phil.

To Phil’s immediate family and inner circle of friends, you all have my condolences.
Phil was a terrific person, full stop!
I remember when he and I first met. It was during our first day of school, at Dalewood, as we both entered grade 7. On that day, everyone was looking each other over, striving to find some common ground, or any reason really, to strike up a conversation with others.
In doing so, Phil and I noticed that we were the only 2 in immediate view that were wearing black, Levi, corduroy jackets, in and amongst many that were wearing regular Levi jean jackets. We also noted that we were both wearing black, swede, Boston shoes.
So, we approached each other, shook hands, introduced ourselves, and we talked about our clothing choices. A few minutes later, another person joined us (Rob Vanstone) then a couple of minutes after that another (Carmen Wright), then more and more, then the bell rang, and we all started to funnel into the school on the Northside, having no clue where our homerooms were.
That was merely the first of many more moments that were to come, in time being shared between Phil and me.
After high school, losing touch with each other, we had only two chance encounters, one in the summer of 1990 and another in the summer of 2007 (17-years later – 19-years ago). Both encounters were short, but memorable, especially the first.
Phil and I ran into each other midway across the intersection at Lake & Welland Ave. We stopped in the middle of the intersection and struck up a conversation. As the light started to change, I motioned that we should be on our way, and Phil said, without missing a beat, ‘they can wait, and if they don’t, they can drive around us’. We kept talking and he end up not being wrong. As our conversation came to a close, we shook hands, as we did when we first met, and wished each other well. We were just two young dudes, figuring out how to navigate our way through life.
The very last time I saw him was in 2007, at a large multi-high school reunion party at a bar called the Red Hot Chilly Pepper. We didn’t speak, we waved and nodded at each other. At that moment he was hugging an old friend, also from the Dalewood days, Sherry Davidson, or so I believe.
I am truly saddened and sorry for your loss.
