Obituary of Julia Scarpone
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Julia, after a long battle with dementia, in her 91st year, at Pioneer Eldercare on Wednesday, February 9, 2022. She is reunited with her husband Joe (2013) of 50 years. Loving mother to Rosemarie (Dominic) Di Franco and Mario. Proud Nonna of Joseph, Alexander, Rachael (Nick), and Damian (Caitlyn). Dearest sister of Bruno (Ann) Mambella, Mario (MariaPia) Mambella of Italy, and Tony (Marisa) Mambella. Sister-in-law of the late Guido (Yvonne) Di Sante of Belgium, late Marina (Guerino) Dell'Orletta of Barrie and the late Danny (late Eva) Di Sante. Julia will be fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, extended family, and good friends.
Before immigrating to Canada with her family in 1949, Julia was already an accomplished seamstress, having begun to learn the trade at the early age of twelve. After initially working in a ladies’ fashion store, she used her skill to sew for friends and family, as well as to outfit countless wedding parties with all their gowns. A tireless worker, she and her husband established various successful businesses. Julia was a very kind, happy, friendly person. She was a peacemaker. She discouraged others from holding grudges and never held one herself. Her family and good friends were very important to her. She was a great cook and loved to entertain. Her special occasion dinners were legendary. A member of St Alfred’s Church, Julia was a person of deep faith. She volunteered at the Out of the Cold program for many years. She was also an active member the Women's Auxiliary of Club Roma.
Special thanks to the wonderful staff, PSWs, nurses, and doctors at Pioneer Eldercare for the extraordinary care and compassion given to Julia during her residence. They called her “Nonna” and formed a special bond with her.
If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Alfred’s Church--Out of the Cold Program in her honour.
