I am so sorry to learn of Dale's passing. I knew him in the very early 80s. Our first meeting went like this: "Andre," he said to me after Lisa had invited me to dinner as her high school boyfriend, "Do you know the truth about a free meal?" "No," I said. "There is no such thing as a free meal." And so, on our first meeting-the-parents date, Lisa and I were obliged to wash dishes. (I'm surprised how closely this echoes his "work in the morning so you can play in the afternoon"! I wouldn't be surprised if he said that to me as well -- he was very generously considerate of the straggly haired boyfriend Lisa brought home.) I greatly respected Dale, and I am very sorry for your loss. I didn't know it at the time, but he had a great and positive impact on me. His life of volunteering is no surprise to me. My condolences to the family.
