Obituary of Grace Irene Bartel

BARTEL Grace Irene (nee: Gerbrandt) Peacefully, into the arms of Jesus, Grace, 53, passed away fighting anal cancer after three and a half years, with her sister by her side at St. Catharines General Hospital on September 1st, 2012. She was predeceased by her father Walter Gerbrandt and her great niece Sierra Mercedes. Leaving behind her mother Tina Hiebert (Lawrence), sister Shirley Klassen (George), brother Ken Gerbrandt (Virginia), sisters Marilyn Gerbrandt, Noreen Gerbrandt-Trueman (David), Carol Guenther (Curtis), Brenda Funk (Melvin), her chosen sister and life long friend Mona Scott. Left behind four nieces, nine nephews, five great nieces, four great nephews, and her beloved cat Gypsy Rose. Grace will be dearly missed by many friends and family in Manitoba, Ontario and B.C. and her power lifting team. Known for her great sense of humor, there was never a dull moment in her presence; her contagious laugh reminded us all that she truly had a zest for life enjoying it to the fullest. Always looking her finest right to her final hour with her last request… "bring my lipstick." In lieu of flowers Grace has requested that donations be made in her name to Cancer research. The family would like to thank all of Grace's friends who have been there for her throughout her life journey and struggles with cancer. Viewing will take place at GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Thursday September 6th from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. and Friday September 7th from 11 - 12 a.m. Interment at 12 p.m. at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Funeral will be held at Bethany Community Church, 1388 Third St. Louth, St. Catharines, at 1p.m. Reception to follow.
