Obituary of Thelma Evelyn Van Meer

Thelma Van Meer (Piper)

We are saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and friend. Thelma peacefully passed on Thursday, June 16, 2022, at the age of 79. Though her passing profoundly saddens us, we know that she is reunited with her beloved parents, Cyril and Lillian Piper, and brothers, John Piper, Craig Piper and Bob Piper.

She is survived by her Sisters Beverly and Shirley and her four Children

Dan (Gwen), Van Meer, Tracy (Tim), Shorthouse, Dennis (Rhonda), Van Meer and Kelly (Lou) Tosato. Grandmother to; Matthew, Mark, Natasha, Elysia, Arianna, Parker, Spencer, Danielle, Courtney, Adam, Tanner and Kimberlee

Great Grandmother to Blake. She will be dearly missed by her best friend, Irene Lowell

Thelma touched so many people in her life and made so many friends with her uncanny ability to listen and not judge, as she always was there as a voice of reason in any situation. She always put her family first and sacrificed so many things in her life to raise her four children on her own. She will fondly be remembered by her many friends from her Al-Anon family, where she volunteered for many years to help in any way she could with people who needed support.

The family will receive guests on Thursday, June 23 at 10am at George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines. A funeral service will be held in the ceremony room at 11am with a private inurnment at a later date. For those wishing to attend virtually, please click on the livestream link below.  In lieu of flowers, donations to The Kidney Foundation in Memory of her brother, John Piper would be appreciated by her family.
