Obituary of Grace Mitchell
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our dear wife, mother and grandmother on July 3rd at Heidehof, St. Catharines, Ontario at the age of 89. Survived by her husband, William Mitchell, daughter Kathy Hay and her husband Robert, grandchildren, Nicholas Hay and his wife Sara, Sarah Hay and her partner Jake and Curtis Mitchell. Predeceased by her daughter Sue Mitchell (2016). Cremation has taken place.
Born in Oshawa, Ontario to Evelyn and Percy “George” Sanders, Grace loved to sing in the choir and sang hymns on the radio in her late teens. She taught Sunday school both in Oshawa and St. Catharines and was a proud Boy Scout leader in Oshawa. She later sang in church choirs in Rexdale, Waterloo and St. Catharines and loved to sing harmony. Grace loved to sew, making clothes, costumes and things for the house. She enjoyed making beautiful cakes for birthdays, embroidery, ceramics, painting and reading. Most important to her was her faith, and her family and friends.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Arvinte and all of the staff at Heidehof for their outstanding care, compassion and assistance as well as to Dr. Alhussaini at the St. Catharines Hospital site for being so incredibly kind and dedicated.
As requested by Grace, she will be buried in Oshawa next to her loving parents. A family service will be held there at that time.
Those wishing to honour Grace may do so with donations to The Niagara Health Foundation - Cardiac Care.
