Dear Loraine and Craig,
Michael Veasey forwarded your loving obituary for your Pa; Doug Smith.
I was so pleased to read your memories despite your sad loss recently. Clearly you all had a happy and successful family life together and my Pa (George/Eddie Veasey) really enjoyed his visit in 2006 with Shirley. Sadly, I knew nothing about that trip until some years later but apparently a welcome and enjoyable time together.
My Pa would surely have liked to be remembered to you all as you commemorate Doug's great life and career.
Blessings to you all and take care.
Christine Veasey xx

Sorry for you lose. He lived a very long and full life with a wonderful family.
I will always remember him from our time in Florida vacationing at Wakulla Hotel, Cocoa Beach were he went by the nickname "Shutterbug Doug". He was never caught without his camera taking family and friends photos.

During my university work terms, I had the privilege of sitting between 'Dougie' Smith and John van Staalduinen, at General Motors Central Engineering office. I was honored to be in the presence of the fathers of my school chums, Lorraine since Grade 1 and Gary since Grade 7. I got to know Doug at work, not as a parent but as a hard working, professional employee, a unique perspective from the parents of my other friends. I am glad to read about your family life and what a good Dad he was. Keep those wonderful memories forefront during this difficult time.

Thank you for these kind words, Doug. It is wonderful to hear that the values Dad taught us in our personal lives, shone through in his working life. You certainly had a unique opportunity working with both Dad and Mr. Van Staalduinen. Thank you for sharing.

The Smith's were my second parents.. Growing up we lived next door. I have so many memories of Mr. Smith. He was funny and quick witted. Going back over to visit after I moved in 2014 was like going home. The Smiths were at my wedding, and my daughter's grade 8 graduation. When something went wrong my mom couldn't figure out when my dad was at work, one of us would run to get Mr. Smith. When my dad fell off the roof, Mr. Smith took him to the hospital. I am so blessed to have had him in my life all these years. He truly was a remarkable soul. I will miss him more then I can say. My love and prayers go to Craig and Lorraine at this most difficult time.
Love Sandi and Frank Sgambato

My father and Mr. Smith worked together for many years at General Motors Central Engineering. Lorraine and I were in school together from Grade 7 to 13. Dad was always updating us about the Smith family happenings. The obit describes him perfectly as “a funny, bright, kind, loving man”. That is how I remember him, that and his British accent. Condolences to Lorraine and Craig and family. Rest easy Mr. Smith.
