Obituary of Salvatore Cocco
Salvatore Cocco passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 21, 2022 surrounded by his loving family at St. Catharines Hospital. Salvatore was born August 24, 1938 to Michele and Francesca (Nieddu) Cocco in Nughedu, San Nicolo, Sassari, Sardegna, Italy. He was the youngest of five children.
Salvatore immigrated to Canada in 1965 where he met his wife Jane (Mantini). In 1973, Salvatore began his career in the automotive industry at Thompson Products (TRW) and retired in 1998 after 25 years of service. Salvatore enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Being an avid sports fan, his passion was soccer. He spent many years playing in Italy, was a founding member of the Club Roma soccer team, and also played for Club Italia. Salvatore was a huge Juventus supporter and loved the Montreal Canadiens.
Salvatore is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Jane; son Michael (Andrea) and daughter Sandra (Tisha Barnes) Durksen. He leaves behind the four loves and treasures of his life, his grandchildren Kira, Matthew, Rebecca, and Brianna whom he was so very proud of. He is also survived by his older brother Gesuino (Andriana), and older sister Giovanna (the late Emilio) Arghittu, and numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Salvatore was preceded in death by his parents, and older sisters Angelina (Francesco) Secchi, and Mariuccia (Antonio) Arghittu.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Lagrotteria, Dr. Rammohan, the Dialysis Team in St. Catharines, and the exceptional staff in the ICU.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 25, 2022 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines, with Vigil Prayers at 3pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at 11am at St. Alfred’s Church with burial at Victoria Lawn Cemetery to follow. As per Salvatore’s request, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wellspring Niagara Regional Cancer Support Foundation.
