Obituary of Matthew Joseph Plata
On Saturday, September 10th Matthew Joseph Plata passed peacefully at home in his 86th year. Commonly referred to as Mitch, Mitch leaves behind his beloved wife, Mary of 64 years; cherished children: Gary, Carolyn (Glen) Cookson and Catherine (Kelly) Walsh. So very proud Papa to Jennifer (Colton), Mitchell, Carly (Chris), Briar (Jordan), Kaitlyn, Ryan (CJ) and James; as well as a great-Papa of Lincoln, Adaline and Rowan. He will be missed by many of his nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brothers; Stanley, Albert, Raymond, Ed and Walter. Playing sports was a passion in Mitch’s life, especially the game of hockey. He was an avid supporter of all of the grandchildren’s activities and never missed a game! Matched by his passion of sports was the joy he got from the time he spent with his grandchildren. Mitch was also an active member of the St. Catharines Cribbage League of which he enjoyed. When he won a game of crib he smiled, and when he lost to his grandchildren he smiled even more. If you had the pleasure of meeting him, you would never forget his generous, kind and funny spirit.
In keeping with Mitch’s wishes, funeral arrangements have been entrusted with GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines. Cremation has taken place and a Funeral Mass will be held at St. Alfred’s Church, 272 Vine St., St. Catharines at 1:30PM Wednesday, September 14th, 2022. If desired, the family's wish for donations to be made in honour of Mitch to the Kidney Care Program at the NHS-St. Catharines Site and/or the Walker Family Cancer Centre.
