Obituary of Walter Forstinger
It is with broken and heavy hearts that we announce the loss of Walter Forstinger on Wednesday September 14, 2022 at the Hamilton General Hospital in his 91st year. Beloved husband of Gladys (nee Tomczyk) for 67 years. Caring and loving father to Lynn (deceased 1998) (Steve Silverman), Diane (Ron McClure), Rob (Celine). Devoted Papa (Bupa) to Aaron, Kyle, Elyse (Connor Craig), Brendan, Victoria, Alisha (Kyle Campbell), Evan, Catharine. Great grandfather to Leo Robert Campbell. He is now reunited with his daughter Lynn.
Walter began his working career as a butcher in St. Catharines before heading into the family's manufacturing business, FB Tool and Die in the early 1950's. As a tool and die maker he helped make FB Tool and Die the premier Tool and Die company in the area. As time progressed the company grew and so did his responsibilities, from General Manager and eventually to President. After 52 years of service Walter decided that he was ready for the next stage of his life, retirement. But even in retirement Walter spent time at the plant running the occasional errands, organizing the company barbecues and mentoring the younger generation in any way he could.
Walter enjoyed golf and fishing, and he would often organize trips with his family. Papa was very creative and talented. He was a gifted artist, particularly with woodwork. His basement was full of wood working equipment, where he would spend endless hours crafting incredibly intricate wood carvings.
Above all, Walter's family was by far the most important part of his life. His loving wife, three children, his two sons in law and daughter in law followed by his eight grandchildren trumped everything! When asked what he wanted for birthday or Christmas presents, his response was always the same: "My family to be together".
Walter enriched everyone’s life he encountered with his generosity and selfless actions. He will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
A celebration of Walter's life will be held at White Oaks Resort in Niagara on The Lake on Sunday October 16, 2022 from 12:00pm until 3:00pm as an open house with some speeches being held at 1:00pm. The family would like to encourage anyone that would like to share a story about Walter to do so at that time.
All donations can be made in Walter’s name to the St. Catharines General Hospital, Cardiac Services or the Hamilton General Hospital, Cardiac Vascular program.
