Obituary of Mel Chivers

It is with profound sorrow that the family announces the passing of Mel Chivers. Mel passed away at his home peacefully on November 5th, 2022, at the age of 88. Mel was born and raised in North Bay, Ontario and is the son of the late John and Evelyn Chivers. Mel is predeceased by his siblings Shirley Celentano and Jerry Chivers.

Mel is survived by his wife and soulmate, Lorraine Chivers. He was a devoted and loving father to Jill, Tracy and James. Grandpa (Lovingly called Govenor) will be forever engraved in the hearts of his grandchildren Mike (Sherry), Shannon (Jay), Carrie (P.J.), and Nicola and great-grandchildren James (Allyson), Nathan, Branden, Owen and Allison. He will be missed by his sister-in-law, Louise Chivers, Diane Wolkowski and his nieces and nephews. Mel was a devoted Catholic at The Holy Face of Jesus and valued the fellowship there.

Mel was a graduate of Scholar’s Hall as a Chartered Professional Accountant. He began work as a young man in his 20s and continued working well into his 80s.
Mel had a fantastic sense of humour and could make his family laugh. He made a promise to the love of his life Lorraine to make her laugh once a day, and he was faithful to this promise to her.

Mel was a sports fan and enjoyed watching football, hockey, baseball and golf. We could find him rooting for his favourite teams the Montreal Canadians and St. Louis Cardinals. What Mel loved most was spending time with his beloved wife, Lorraine, in the wee hours of the night they would rendezvous in the kitchen stealing kisses and sharing a cup of tea. Mel was a loving, kind and honourable man who was loved dearly and will forever be remembered and missed.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted with George Dart Funeral Home, 585 CARLTON ST., ST. CATHARINES. A wake will be held November 9th from 5pm-7pm with prayers at 6pm. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 10th, 2022 at 11am at George Darte Funeral Home with a reception to follow in the Kristen French Fellowship Hall in the funeral home. If desired, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
