Obituary of Dr. Vadim Prokopetz
PROKOPETZ, Dr. Vadim, M.D., FRCS (C) (Obstetrician and Gynaecologist)
It is with deepest sorrow our family wishes to announce the passing of Dr. Vadim Prokopetz peacefully, in his 87th year, at the Heidehof Home for the Aged in St. Catharines on Saturday August 4, 2012.
Beloved husband of Wolodymyra (Kysilewska) for 56 years and dear father of Dr. Sonia, Ania (John Rowe) and Lesia. Loving grandfather of Daniel and Andrew Rowe. Brother of Dr. George Prokopetz and wife Eva in Vernon BC, and uncle to George Alexander and family in Vancouver.
As a graduate of the University of Innsbruck School of Medicine in 1950, Dr. Vadim emigrated to Canada where he completed his residency training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He later received his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada. He practiced in Virgil and Niagara on the Lake, and then St. Catharines from 1956 to 2004. Dr. Vadim is very fondly remembered by his patients and colleagues.
Dr. Vadim will be deeply missed by family and friends who have been touched by his compassion and gentle kindness. He loved his family above all else and devoted his life to their happiness, sharing with them his lifelong enthusiasm for world travel, sailing, skiing, and enjoyment of life at his beloved cottage on Lake Ontario.
We are grateful to him, proud of him, and honoured to have been part his life.
The family wishes to sincerely thank Dr. P. O'Reilly and the very dedicated and supportive staff at Heidehof for their compassionate care.
Friends of Dr. Vadim will be received by the family on Tuesday Augsut 7th at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street from 6 to 9 p.m. with Panachyda at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home A Funeral Service will be held at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of St. George, 8 Augusta Avenue, St. Catharines, on Wednesday August 8th at 10 a.m. Following, Dr. Prokopetz will be laid to rest at St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Cemetery in Oakville.
