We at Nelles Manor in Grimsby were forwarded the obituary. We offer our condolences.
It seems Col. Robert Nelles home in Grimsby has become the focal point for collecting, preserving and telling the story of the Nelles family. The museum, now in its 6th year, has been in contact with and has artifacts from many of the Nelles family, including the Mohawk Valley area.
There is a reunion planned for June 24, 2023, at the Manor. Perhaps some of the family would like to be involved. Information can be obtained at nellesmanor.ca.

My memories of Bill Hull go back to 1963 when, as a recent graduate from St. David's College in the University of Wales and as a newly appointed Graduate Fellow in History, I needed Bill's gentle guidance through the academic bureaucracy of the University of Manitoba. He always listened carefully and laughed easily --- including about his experiences in my home town of Ealing, West London. He never criticised but always encouraged. I lost personal touch with him when Brock beckoned him back to Niagara. In more recent years after I retired to NOTL we shared lunch from time to time. Bill will remain a strong positive memory. Thank you.

I regret that I will be out of the country on the date of Bill's funeral. I was a junior colleague of Bill's in the Political Science Department at Brock University, and I recall with fondness what a kind welcome I received in the Department from Bill and his wife Mary Ann. Paraphrasing from another colleague, I can attest that Bill was a 'gentleman scholar', dedicated to a culture of civility. We owe him a lot for his many years of service to the Department and the University.

I am so sorry for your loss. Professor Hull was a humane, witty and decent man.Our paths crossed when I took a class with him at Brock in 1989.He later asked me to lead a seminar for him. It meant the world to me that he would trust me with such a task. A true gentleman.

Bill taught me political science at the University of Manitoba in the early 1960s. He and his family lived on the same street as I did, Oak Street in south Winnipeg. Bill was the kindest and most genial of men, and became a friend. He was a committed teacher. He had considerable influence on my thinking. We kept in touch over the years. He took me to lunch in Toronto about seven or eight years ago, and produced a student essay I had written for him and that he had kept (along with essays by other students, such as the late Roger Beehler). I have mentioned Bill in some of the books I have written. He was an important figure in my life, and in the life of many others.
