Obituary of Christine Shwatz
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Christine Shwatz on Friday, November 4th, 2022, at the Greater Niagara Hospital in her 87th year. Beloved wife of late husband Walter, she leaves behind her dear children Walter and Lesia, and grandchildren Adrian, (Nicole) and Alexandra.
In 1935, Christine was born in Western Ukraine. To build a better life for her and her daughter, Christine’s mother, Eva, moved to France in the 1940s–immigrating to Alberta, Canada, in 1952. Their family lived in Edmonton, where Christine met her husband and had their firstborn son, Walter. After moving to Toronto, their second child, Lesia, was born.
While in Toronto, Christine began her career as a seamstress. She was a hard-working, devoted wife and mother. Christine offered a selfless concern to help others. With a kind and gentle heart, she was loved by all who met her.
Christine had a love of music and dancing and, in her pastime, enjoyed colourful Ukrainian embroidery. She loved spending time with family and friends. She especially loved her grandchildren, who she helped raise. Christine was best known for her light-hearted humour, generous spirit, and resilient determination to provide the best life for her family. Her memory will live on forever in our hearts.
In lieu of giving flowers, the family asks that those who are able instead to make a donation to the Toronto Hospital for Sick Children. Please take a moment to leave your condolences for the family, or a memory of Christine on the online Tribute Wall.
