Obituary of Lorene Katzman
Katzman, Lorene (Herzog)
On Monday evening November 21, 2022 Lorene Katzman passed away in the comfort of her own home surrounded by the love of her family. Lorene had just celebrated her 86th birthday with all her children, grand-children and great grand-children by her side. She was the wife of 67 years of Archie Katzman and their unbreakable bond and never-ending love was in full evidence as she battled her illness courageously. In addition to Archie, Lorene leaves her children Ronna, Barry (Rebecca) and Steve (Jorie); her loving grand children Adriana (Crystal), Esther (Suresh), Linzee, Jack, Spencer, Ben and Sarah and her great-grandchildren Nolan and (little) Archie.
Lorene was pre-deceased by her parents Abraham and Esther Herzog, and she had a very special spot in her heart for her brothers that predeceased her Lenny (Elaine) and Wilf (Irene). She was very close with her many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly and she will be fondly remembered by her brother-in-law Norm (Anita) and sister-in-law Pearl (Hymie).
Lorene was a family outlier always shunning attention but always there tirelessly behind the scenes supporting her husband and family in every way possible. She was a remarkable stoic battler handling her illnesses for many years with a fierce strength, dignity and grace evident right up to the end. She was the glue in our family always prioritizing family events, milestones and holidays. The last number of weeks she was constantly surrounded by all of her family to whom she devoted so much time and passion to, placing the highest emphasis throughout her life on family which will be her lasting legacy.
The family would like to thank the extensive team of medical and support professionals that have been with Lorene throughout this and other illnesses. In particular we wish to offer our gratitude to Judy whose compassion for Lorene was evident daily for many months as well as a very heartfelt thanks to Paula Lawrence at Home and Community Care Support Services (LHIN), Dr Hutchison, Dr Valerie Francescutti at Juravinski Oncology, the very special nurse Angela from Bayshore and the many other Doctors and nurses including Dr Giesbrecht and Dr Levesque that assisted, with a special note of gratitude to the incredible team at the Walker Family Cancer Centre. The family is also very grateful for the support and guidance over the past weeks from Howard Slepkov and George Darte.
A funeral service will be held at George Darte Funeral Home in St Catharines on Friday November 25th at 11:00 am followed immediately by burial at the B’nai Israel Cemetery on Bunting Rd. For those wishing to participate virtually, please click on the livestream link below.
In lieu of flowers the family welcomes donations to the Hotel Dieu Shaver Hospital Foundation at: www.foundation.hoteldieushaver.org or the Walker Family Cancer Centre.
