Obituary of Douglas Edward Hicks
Hicks, Douglas
May 26, 1931 – December 3, 2022
It is with great sadness that we are saying goodbye to our loving husband, Dad, and Grandpa who went to be with the Lord on December 3, 2022 in his 92nd year. Beloved husband of Josephine (nee Franceschini) for 66 years. Loving father of Rick (Barbara), Mike (Martha), David (Shelly), and Daniel (Carol). Proud grandfather of 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Doug is pre-deceased by his parents, Manson and Christine Hicks and his siblings, Sylvia, Ruth (Jim, deceased), Floyd (Audrey) both deceased, Clifford (deceased), Howard (Lois), and Doris.
Doug was born and raised in Sundridge Ontario where he grew up on his parents' farm enjoying many experiences with his large family. He moved to St. Catharines in 1952.
He lived with his sister Sylvia and met his beautiful future wife, Josephine Franceschini at Elim Tabernacle. They were happily married for 66 years.
Doug was bricklayer by trade and a handyman by nature. He could fix almost anything.
Doug also loved poetry and could recite a multitude of poems.
Doug faithfully served his Lord, Jesus Christ giving his time, talent and treasure. Doug was an active member of Central Gospel Temple (now known as Central Community Church) for almost 70 years. Doug enjoyed serving by travelling with missionary teams to Africa, Guatemala, and other destinations. Doug served in ministry for many years at Westpark Nursing Home, and drove for the seniors twice a month to Tabor Manor.
He was a hard-working, strong, compassionate man. His wisdom, kindness, and gentle nature were valued by everyone who knew him. We will miss him greatly. Until we meet again.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, December 7th, 2022 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton St. St. Catharines. Funeral Service will take place on Thursday, December 8th, 2022 at 10am at Central Community Church, 680 York Road, Niagara-on-the-Lake, with burial to follow the service. If desired, donations to Central Community Church or the Niagara Health System would be appreciated by Doug’s family.
