Obituary of Bernice Mae McQuay
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Bernice Mae McQuay on Friday January 13, 2023 at the St. Catharines Hospital with her loved ones by her side. Mourning her loss and cherishing her memory are her children, Crystal (Vince) and Gary (Kina); her grandchildren, Brandy (Scott), Stephen, Troy and Rachel; her great-grandson Seth; and countless relatives and friends that Mom considered her extended family. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Jim in 2018. Although our hearts are heavy, we find comfort knowing that she is reunited with her soulmate and best friend in heaven.
Bernice who preferred to be called "Bernie" was happiest when she was spending time with friends and family. She was a strong, independent lady who had a fiesty spirit and lived life on her own terms. She always told you the truth, never holding back her opinion and had a knack for telling it like it is. With that, she was genuine to a fault, had a huge heart and would help anyone who needed a hand.
She always placed high priority on relationships over material things and friends became like family to her. Mom treasured her many friendships over the years and was thankful for all the fun, laughter and adventures they shared together.
Most of all she loved her family and instilled in them her strong work ethic and fierce determination to always be self reliant. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
At Bernie's request cremation has already taken place. Friends are invited to say a final goodbye to Bernie at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME on Saturday January 21st at 11am in the chapel with a reception to follow.
