Obituary of Maria Michela Cipriano
It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our dear mother, Nonna, and Bisnonna, Maria Michela Cipriano (nee: Giordano), who passed away on Tuesday February 21, 2023, at the age of 90. Predeceased by her beloved husband Angelo (2005), and sisters Angela (1992) and Emily (2019). Loving mother of Frank (Kathy), Nick (Jo), and Lina (Christopher). Devoted Nonna of Paul (Eleanor), Bryan (Jenn), Caillie (Alan), Nolan (Pascal), Liah (Greg), Jonathan, Michael (Marissa), Robert (Nathaly), Angelina, and David. Proud Bisnonna to Bianca, Paige, Ethan, Earl, Luca, Adam, Blair, Lennon, Mitchell, James, Summit, Chase, and Nathan. Maria will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her extended family and friends.
Born and raised in Guardia Lombardi, Avellino, Italy, Maria immigrated to Canada with her husband and sons in 1963. She brought with her the rich culture, customs, and language of her homeland, which she passed on to her family. She helped provide for her family by working as a restaurant cook and a baker until her retirement. From her Italian roots as a farmer, she enjoyed cultivating her vegetable garden until the end. Maria shared her many talents with her grandchildren, who honour her memory by carrying on these traditions with their families.
Maria will always be remembered for her devotion and love for her family, and for her warmth, kindness, and generosity.
The family wishes to thank the staff in the Palliative Care and Intensive Care Units at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital for the exceptional support they provided.
Visitation at George Darte Funeral Home will take place on Thursday February 23rd from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Alfred’s Church on Friday February 24th. Maria will be laid to rest with her husband at Victoria Lawn Cemetery in St Catharines. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Maria’s memory to Heart and Stoke Foundation.
