Obituary of George Norman Richard Joseph Wolowski
George Wolowski, 72, of St. Catharines, Ontario passed away peacefully while surrounded by loving family in the early hours of March 15, 2023. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered by his loving wife Krystyna, daughter Kasia Wolowski (J.M. Pelland), sister Lucy Kowalewski (Henry), nieces Kelly and Christy (with families), aunt Helen Danzinger, cousin Richard Danzinger (with family), nieces Ania and Gosia, and nephew Tomek Surman (with families) in Poland.
George is preceded in death by Maria and Karol Wolowski (parents), Karen Danzinger (cousin), Sophie Wyszinski (aunt), Linda Wyszinski (cousin), Teresa Hermaszuk (sister-in-law), Victor Hermaszuk (brother in-law), Halina Surman (sister-in-law), Wojciech Surman (brother in-law).
Born in Montreal to Polish immigrant parents Maria and Karol, George grew up riding his bicycle and helping at home with younger sister Lucy. Later, the family moved to Niagara-on-the-lake where he worked on his parents’ farm and continued school. After completing his diplomas in college, George combined his love for tinkering and building into a career as a Mechanic for General Motors. His willingness to go the extra mile showcased his strong work ethic along with resilience and determination. In 1980 he met his caring wife Krystyna, and was blessed with the birth of their daughter, Kasia in 1983. Throughout the years he lived a busy and active life with his family in St. Catharines, where the Polish community, local neighbourhood group and others that came across him enjoyed his kind heart and sense of humour.
In 2007, after 30 years of loyal work George retired from General Motors. In retirement he showed his generous spirit by volunteering at the Warehouse of Hope where he also met some of his closest friends. Always active and adventurous, George spent time traveling with his family and exploring the world. He absolutely loved nature and adored animals. At home, he enjoyed bird watching and building custom birdhouses that would deter squirrels from intruding.
George will be remembered as being patient, humble, loyal, loving, kind, and generous. He was the neighbourhood gentle giant and was often referred to as a “teddy bear”. George used his strong faith as a guiding light to be the best person he could be and had an intrinsic desire to help those in need.
The family will always be grateful for the kindness, care and support provided over the past several years by his caregivers, including the recent care at the St. Catharines and Welland Hospital.

Memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, March 19, 2023 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Rosary at 3:30 p.m.
Church service at St. Alfred's Church on Monday, March 20, 2023 at 10:00 a.m.
Burial at Niagara Lakeshore Cemetery, Niagara-on-the-Lake following Church service.
Reception lunch to follow at Mandarin Restaurant, Bunting Rd, St.Catharines.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul or The Humane Society.
