Obituary of Matilde Carbone

It is with profound sadness that the family of Matilde Carbone announce her passing on March 22, 2023 at 91 years old.  She is reunited in heaven with her cherished husband Bernardino. Beloved mother of Josephine and Joe Magnotta and Anna and Maurice Feltrin. Loving grandmother to Maria Slivia (Mario), Arnie (Anna), Joe (Tanya), Dave (Sheena), Adam (Shariza), Sara (Alex), and 13 great-grandchildren. 

Matilde grew up in Guardia Lombardi, Italy with her beloved parents Gaetano and Giulia, and brother Tony (predeceased) before immigrating to Canada with her husband in 1953. Together they met the challenges of life in a new country with resilience and perseverance, always demonstrating the value of hard work, and devotion to family. Matilde will forever be remembered for her elegant and stylish manner, her meticulous home, and most of all for her amazing cooking and baking skills. Nothing delighted her more than to be surrounded by her family. A visit to her house would mean a delicious meal, lively conversation and some extra treats to take home and enjoy later. 

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Jackie for the excellent care and attention given to “Nonna” over the last few years.

Visitation will take place on Friday, March 24, 2023 from 3-6 p.m. at GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines with Vigil Prayers taking place at 4pm.  Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Alfred Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. with entombment to follow at Victoria Lawn Cemetery.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to Community Care would be appreciated by Matilde’s family.
