Obituary of Sam Burgio
August 7th, 1952 - March 25th, 2023
It is with profound sadness that we announce Sam's passing surrounded by his loving family on March 25, 2023, at the age of 70. Predeceased by his father Paolo (2013), Sam is the much-loved son of Giuseppina and adored brother of Joe (Linda) and sister Carmela (Anthony) DiBiasi. Sam was admired and respected by his niece Tina (Antonio) Firenze, nephews Paul (Michelle), Daniel, and Joey (Daniela). Zi Zi Sam was adored by his great nephews Dante, Enzo, Paolo, Alessio and little Camille. Our angels in Heaven are rejoicing to welcome Sam as he is predeceased by many aunts, uncles, friends, relatives and special cousins Carmela Spasaro and Anna Meli along with his lifelong childhood friend Dave Steingart.
Sam was born Salvatore Burgio in Realmonte, Sicily and immigrated at the age of 6 with his twin and parents in 1958 to Hamilton, Ontario and later settled In St. Catharines. He worked most of his adulthood at Genaire in NOTL until his early retirement where he entered a new phase of his life spending winters in Florida making many new friends at the beach or shooting a game of pool. Sam enjoyed travelling and was fortunate to visit many of the Caribbean islands. When back at home in Canada, he was an outdoorsman raising and racing pigeons, training dogs, and hunting. Sam's gentle smile and kindness never failed to warm the hearts of those in his presence. He lived with quiet dignity and incredible strength, giving the family comfort that he is now at peace.
The family would like to acknowledge those who cared for "Toto" with love, kindness, and compassion putting aside his disability. "Grazie" Eleana, Rio and Ernesto .
