Obituary of Heidi Kuehn
It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Heidi Kuehn. Predeceased by beloved husband Horst of 63 years, and much loved and proud Mom of four daughters, Anita (Pete), Danielle, Angela (Brent), and Lynette (Tim). Cherished Omi of Flynn and Evan. Dear sister of Edith (Klaus), and predeceased by brother Reinhold.
Our Mom was born in the town of Gurkie, Germany. During World War 2 she fled with her mother, older brother and infant sister from their home by horse and buggy, while her father was taken as a POW to Russia for several years. They were eventually miraculously reunited with her father through the help of the Red Cross. Everyone was always fascinated to hear the details of life during the war she recalled from her early childhood. She was an engaging, passionate story teller.
At the age of 13, she came to Canada with her family to start a new life. A few years later she met Horst, her brother's best friend. They got married when she was 18 and built a life together. She spent most of her life living in the town of Niagara-on-the-Lake, 16 years in Warkworth, Ontario, and more recently at the Lindenhaus Retirement Village in St. Catharines.
Our Mother was a creative genius. She was an expert cook, baker, seamstress, crocheter and knitter. Her dream was always to learn to paint, and when they lived in the artistic town of Warkworth, she started painting classes and created many beautiful masterpieces. She also loved to spend time at the cottage near Bancroft where she enjoyed nature, boat tours of the lake, and sitting on the deck enjoying the serenity of the breeze in the pine trees. She enjoyed spending time with grandkids Flynn and Evan who were amazed by all of her creative talents and "you can do anything" attitude. She will be deeply missed.
The family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Monday, May 22nd from 6-8 p.m. A visitation at Grace Lutheran Church, 213 Linwell Rd., St. Catharines on Tuesday, May 23rd from 10-11am will proceed the Funeral Service at 11a.m. There will be a luncheon immediately after the service at the church. Burial to follow at Niagara Lakeshore Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the Canadian Lutheran World Relief.
