Obituary of Doris Mary Konst
On May 27, 2023 in her 82nd year, Doris completed a life well lived. We now know the ending of a life story filled with passion, determination, curiosity and an unending faith. Loving spouse for 60 years to Jack; mother of Paul (Pat) and Brian (Amy). Loving, passionate and devoted Oma to Bryanna (Sam), Karina (David), Justen, Hayley, and Bek. Pre-deceased by her daughter-in-law Lori, her brother John and sister-in-law-Bernice. Family meant everything to Doris, including being an Aunt to so many nieces and nephews in Canada and Holland. After finishing Teacher’s College, Doris devoted much of her life to teaching elementary school for the Niagara Catholic District School Board. For nine years, while raising and supporting her family, she demonstrated great determination and commitment as she acquired her B.A. in philosophy. After retirement, Doris was a committed member of the Catholic Women’s League. In lighthearted bright style she dressed for the Red Hat Society.
Doris was passionate about almost everything she did. She loved her many visits to family in Holland and she talked regularly about her trip to Indonesia. Time spent in nature was cherished, whether traversing Canada’s roads across country, or while settled at a trailer on Manitoulin Island. She had a passion for capturing life events in countless photos and albums. Her vivacious and spirited self filled her home with vibrant colours of plastic flowers and memorabilia that defined who she was and how she will be remembered. Doris’ giving personality was not bound to social norms. She showed an eccentric flair that filled any room or space she occupied. She lived from the heart and she felt the pain of others, always giving and sharing herself with those she met. When she could not find life’s answers, she lived the questions. In the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi, Doris has entered a life everlasting where she does not take with her what she had, but what she has given. The family would like to express their greatest appreciation for the wonderful care and kindness given to her by her family physician Dr. Torigian and past family physician Dr. Taylor as well as the many helpful specialists along the way. In keeping with Doris’ final wishes, funeral arrangements have been entrusted with the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines the family welcomes guests for a time of visitation on Wednesday, May 31st from 3:30-5:30PM with a prayer service at 4:00PM.
