Obituary of Edith Marcella McCann
McCann, Edith Marcella (nee Clifford) - Beloved wife of the late John (Jack) Jerome McCann (1991). Proud mother of John Michael (Sharon) of Deep River, Connecticut; Mari Jo Leon (Terry) of Toronto, Colleen Critelli (Don) of Waterloo; and Matt of Barrie.
Cherished grandmother of Kate, Meighan, Kristie, Danielle, Kelley, Luke, Kim, Adam, Michael, and Alicia. Loving great-grandmother of Addison, Lucas and Eleanor. Edith is survived by her sister-in-law Anne McCann, and several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her sister Marie Bald, and brothers Joseph Clifford, Msgr. Matthew Clifford, William Clifford and parents Cecil and Margaret Clifford.
Edith was a contributing volunteer and member (along with our father) of St. Thomas Aquinas Church since its inception 50 years ago and a lifelong member of the Catholic Women's League.
Faith and Family were most important to our mother. Her patience, gentle strength always prevailed in the face of adversity. She humbly accepted all that life's challenges threw in her way. She often shared her gratitude in having "such wonderful, faithful friends." She was always interested in others and found beauty in the most "simplest things." Edith was resourceful, multi-talented, and enjoyed staying busy with her many hobbies including gardening, woodworking, quilting, sewing, and painting scenic portraits.
Family will receive friends at the George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton Street on Thursday between 3-7pm. Vigil Prayers will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 4pm. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at Cathedral of St. Catherine of Alexandria, 3 Lyman Street on Friday at 10am. Cremation has already taken place. Interment will take place at a later time at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances can be made to Denis Morris Catholic High School or Heart & Stroke Society of Canada. Special thank you to the caring, supportive staff of St. Andrew's Long Term Care, Cambridge, Ontario where our mother resided, for the past eight years.
