1950-2023
With a broken heart, Felicia announces the passing of her beloved husband and soulmate, Tom, on July 20, 2023, in his 74th year, after years of courageously battling a multitude of illnesses.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Beatrice, his brothers, Raymond and Desmond, his sister, Lorraine Carlson, his sister and brother-in-law, Susie and Robert Bates, his sister and brother-in-law, Michelle and Chuck Johnson, his brother-in-law, Al Flindall, his nephews, Paul Bates and Jeff McClelland, and his great-nephew, Brendan Penfound.
Left to mourn his loss are his wife of 33 years, Felicia, his sisters and in-laws, Joan Flindall, Kitty and Ron McClelland, Louise and Andy Kirkness, Mary Goulet, Bryan Carlson, Lina Mastrangelo, Armando and Elizabeth Mastrangelo. Tom will also be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Tom joined the Canadian Armed Forces at age 17 and spent the next 10 years in service with the Canadian Airborne Regiment and the Royal Canadian Air Force. Upon leaving the Forces, Tom worked for General Motors of Canada. He was most proud of his employment at the former GM Water Treatment Facility and of his work as one of the Health and Safety Instructors for Plants 1 and 2, St. Catharines.
The family would like to thank Dr. Irving Teodorini, Dr. Nibal Lubbad, Dr. Anthony Broski, Dr. Jasmine Lamba and Dr. Ameer Al-Shammaa for your care of Tom over the years. Thank you also to the ICU team at the St. Catharines General Hospital for your care and compassion during Tom’s final weeks. A special thank you to Sara and Roseline, Tom’s Home Care Nurses, for your exceptional kindness and care over the past year.
As per Tom’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on July 28, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. Alfred Church, 272 Vine Street, St. Catharines. A small reception to follow.
Private Inurnment at Fairview Mausoleum, Niagara Falls.
If so desired, donations in Tom’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Diabetes Canada or to your favourite charity would be appreciated by the family.
