I learned of Roman's passing only today. And I am so sad.
I have a very long relationship with Roman, going back to the 1980's. We worked together with Craig Perkins on a very large and very important Family Law project, the Family Law Rules. The three of us met weekly to work on the rules over a period of many years. Roman was an amazing resource, and a very hard worker on this project. We could not have done it without him. He also had the tech skills to design the court forms. In the era that we worked on this project, he was completely irreplaceable.
He knew I was a Star Trek fan, and he sent me a whole deck of Star Trek fonts. I still have them on my computer, and still use them. Of course, I think of Roman every time I see them.
He was also a kind, warm and gentle man. There was one spring that he cared for a large litter of baby raccoons in his backyard, because the mother had been killed. Also, he became very close to two young boys who lived with their single mother in North Bay. He spent time with them, driving up to North Bay to see them.
And he was a character. A little odd, eccentric, very smart, funny, well read, extremely knowledgeable, and always interesting to talk to. He introduced me to delicious almond danishes from Harbord Bakery. I have missed him in the years since we stopped working together.
