Obituary of Pauline Bylhouwer
Pauline Bylhouwer “Polly, Grandma, Mom, Tante Lenny” passed away peacefully on August 12th, 2023. She will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by her children: Cora Steglinski (John), Ron Harinck (Cathy), Wendy Harinck; sister Koos (Jan), step-children Margaret (Richard), William (Lorrie), MaryAnn, Chris (Keith), John (Sue), and Paul (Mary); grandchildren Brandon (Ting), Colin (Holly), Jonathan (Nadia) Peter, Simon, Tina (Billy), Clinton (Loretto), David (Brianne), Michael (Kristyn), Anna (Charles), Dan (Marilao), Brian (Amy), Melissa, Amanda, Derek (Sandra) and Lori; great-grandchildren Stanley Harinck, Bradley, Hayley, Tyler, Logan, Hunter, Jenny, Donovan, Elizabeth, William, Emilie, Tyler, Jasmine, Ethan, Chloe, Shawn, and Norah Pauline will also be remembered by her adopted Canadian-Dutch family.
Pauline was born in s'Heer Arendskerke, Netherlands on June 24th, 1931, she was the 6th child of 8. Pauline was a runner for the resistance movement during the war. She married Anton Harinck in 1953, together they immigrated in 1954 to Canada and settled in the Niagara Region. After Anton passed away in 1971, Pauline remarried in 1973 to Matthew Bylhouwer.
Pauline worked hard cleaning houses to make a better life for her children. She loved to walk, play cards and Rummikub. She loved watching her grandchildren play sports. She was active in her Catholic faith where she sang in the choir for many years. When Pauline retired, she volunteered for 10+ years with special needs children as an aide. Then, volunteering for over 20 years with the "Friends of Linhaven" where she truly shone.
Pauline resided at Linhaven, a fitting place for her final days.
The family wishes to thank Linhaven for their excellent care and were overwhelmed by the love and thoughtfulness shown throughout her stay, especially in her final days.
Family and friends will be received at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines on Thursday August 17th from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m with a Funeral Service to be celebrated on Friday August 18th at 11:00 AM in the funeral home ceremony room. Followed by an interment at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. A Reception will be served in the Kristen French Fellowship Hall commencing after the burial. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the “Friends of Linhaven” or to the Kidney Foundation in honour of Pauline.
