Obituary of Norval John Gault
Norval Gault was born in Owen Sound Ontario in the year 1935. His early years were spent in the farm community of Tara Ontario. Norval was always very proud of his Irish heritage. At a very early age Norval invited Jesus to be the Lord and Saviour of his life. It was his commitment to living out his Christian life that gave him a heart to help other people with their emotional, physical and spiritual needs. It was Norval’s belief that he was blessed to be a blessing to others.
At a skating party Norval met the love of his life, Ruth McNally. Norval had always hoped that he would marry either a teacher or a nurse and indeed Ruth was a nurse. They were married for 51 years. They had three children, Marie[deceased], David from St. Catharines and Edwin from Hamilton. Norval also has a son-in-law Wayne Mewhiney from Vineland Station and his granddaughter Lindsay Mewhiney from St. Catharines. Norval was very grateful for the support from Wayne and Lindsay especially in the later of his life.
For a number of years Norval was employed as a First Mate on the ships that sailed the Great Lake water highways. However Norval decided that he needed to be home with his family so he made the decision to move to the Niagara area where he was employed as a 2nd class stationary engineer for 32 years at GM.
Norval and Ruth were members at Bethany Community Church in St. Catharines where he faithfully served in a number of leadership positions. For a number of years he was a leader in the boy’s ministry of the Christian Service Brigade. He also served on the board of Bethany Community Church and later on he served as a deacon along with his wife Ruth. To the end of his life Norval sought opportunities to reach out and help people who were in need. Norval fought the good fight, he ran the race well and now there is laid up for him a crown of victory as his eternal reward.
A celebration Of Life will be held at Bethany Community Church, 1388 Third Street Louth, St. Catharines, ON L2R 6P9. On Thursday August 17th at 4:30pm.
Donations to Bethany Community Church would be appreciated by the family.
