Jennie Franco, in her 98th year passed away peacefully with her family by her side on October 27th, 2012, at the Linhaven Long Term Care Home in St. Catharines, Ontario. Daughter of the late Henry Bannan and Mary Heyes.
Loving mother of Emile (France Patry) Franco of Ottawa and Barbara (David) Hesse of St. Catharines. Predeceased by her husband Emilio "Doc" Franco and by her sister Amelia "Millie" Ruddle. Survived by her sister Nora Filsinger of Scarborough, Ontario, grandchildren Danielle (Steve) Unruh (nee Brett), of Castries, St. Lucia, Emilio, Melinda (Simon de Haerne) and Meana Franco of Ottawa and great grandchild Kieran Unruh of Castries, St. Lucia.
Jennie Franco was born in St. Catharines on October 2, 1915 and then moved with her family to New Waterford, Nova Scotia where she lived as a coal miner's daughter and then as an elementary school teacher.
She returned to St. Catharines where she worked as an executive secretary at the YMCA before marrying Emilio Franco on June 21, 1952, then helping him run the family farm. In her later years, she enjoyed the company of friends at Anchor Pointe before residing at Linhaven.
A Celebration of Jennie's Life will be held at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 CarltonSt. on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations be made to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind.
