Obituary of Robert Douglas De Wolfe
We are deeply saddened to share the news that Robert Douglas De Wolfe has passed away peacefully in St. Catharines on October 9, 2023, at the age of 75. Bob, as he was affectionately known, was a beloved husband to Leslie (who is also deceased), a cherished father to Alexis and Meagan, and his favorite son-in-law Carey (nee Booth). He took great pride in being Poppa to Sarah and Grace. Bob had the wonderful fortune of having Marylou Perry (Butch), Peter De Wolfe (Erin), and Lynn Mahaffy (Dave) as his siblings, as well as a large network of extended family who will miss him dearly.
In Bob's passing, a noticeable void has been left in the hearts of all those who loved him. However, we take solace in knowing that he is now reunited with his beloved father, Robert De Wolfe Sr., his mother Marion Bubb (Blayne), and his brother David. We must also acknowledge the special bond he shared with his in-laws, Patrick and Joan Alexander, who held an important place in his heart.
Bob was born in Saint John, New Brunswick, on October 27, 1947, and had a delightful childhood. He often regaled us with heartwarming stories of growing up on Lenster Street. As a young man, Bob joined the military and it was during this time that he met Leslie while stationed at CFB Petawawa. After serving in the military, Bob spent many years working at Base Transport, where he traveled across the country delivering vehicles. He later pursued his passion for Business Administration, attending college and earning his degree in 1998.
Politics, volunteering, and stock car racing were all passions that brought joy to Bob's life, and he loved sharing these interests with his family. Following the passing of his beloved wife Leslie in 2011, Bob retired to St. Catharines, where he became actively involved in the Rotary Club and the City's Heritage Committee. One of his proudest achievements was collaborating with the Rotary Club and the City to replace the playground at Happy Rolph's Animal Farm.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the staff at NHS – St. Catharines Site for their exceptional care during Bob's time of need. We are also immensely grateful for the love and support shown by friends and family during this difficult period.
To honor Bob's memory, memorial donations may be made to the Rotary Club of St. Catharines, https://rotarystcatharines.com/.
