Obituary of Italo Colangeli

1929-2023

It is with great sadness that the family of Italo Colangeli announce his peaceful passing on October 11th , 2023. Predeceased by his loving wife, Jean, of 59 years. Dear father of Dianne Volpatti, and Mario,  Daniel, and Dean (Kimberly) Colangeli. Cherished grandpa of Kristin (Mark) Nelson, Amber (Bradley) Griffin, Kayla Volpatti, and Taylor (Josh) and Jared (Daniela) Colangeli. Beloved great-grandpa to Noah, Benjamin, Aubrey, Mason, and Owen. Predeceased by his  parents, Nicola and Guiditta Colangeli, and parent-in-laws, Ulissi and Concetta DeRocco. Italo was a dear brother to the late Gina (Zopito) DiFrancesco and late Giovanni (Emma) Colangeli, and brother-in-law to the late Michael (Barbara) DeRocco, the late Tony (Shirley) DeRocco, the late Carmel (Arnold) Vani, and the late Mary Gibson. He adored his many nieces and nephews and cherished his friendship with his dear neighbour Joe (Angelina). Italo was a proud employee of the City of St. Catharines for 44 years, and was a Founding Father of Club Roma, where even in his later years he and his nephew, Rocky DiFrancesco Sr. (Frances), enjoyed dancing the night away.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the outstanding care and compassion shown by Dr. Abu Shahma, Sam from Sam's Pharmacy, and the care and patience that Nurse Andrea, from St. Elizabeth, provided  during his final days.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted with GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL 585 CARLTON ST, St. Catharines. Friends and family are invited to attend visitation on Sunday, October 29th, from 2-4 and 6-8. Vigil prayers will be held on Sunday at 3 pm.  The funeral will take place on Monday, October 30th, at St. Alfred Church at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pathstone Foundation or SickKids.
