Obituary of Gerald Leo Maney
After a long, courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma, Gerry passed away at the St. Catharines General Hospital with Linda holding his hand.
Loving husband of Linda Shedden (Stokes), Gerry is survived by his daughters Kristine Maney Porter (Dave) & Kathleen Maney, as well as his 4 grandchildren, Jenifer, David (DJ), Ryan & George. Gerry is also survived by his sister Maureen Coles (Bob) & brother Pat Maney (Gen). He was predeceased by his brother Michael and his wife Nancy (Carroll), as well as his brother Ross.
Gerry was an athlete. As a young hockey player, he won several minor league MVP awards, played Jr. B, Jr. A (St. Catharines Tee Pees), then played professionally in the Eastern Hockey League with the New Haven Blades & Nashville Dixie Flyers. Later, Gerry played Senior A hockey with the Welland Merchants.
Gerry won two Henley Gold Medals in rowing (1960), ran the Skylon International Marathon (1978 – 3hrs, 30min, 30sec), and played competitive baseball & squash. In retirement Gerry was a golfer; in summer his home course was Beechwood and in winter, he golfed in Arizona.
Gerry & Linda shared a passion for thoroughbred horse racing, enjoying many trips to the Kentucky Derby, Preakness & Breeders Cup.
Gerry’s eclectic career began working on the St. Lawrence Seaway before leaving to play hockey in New Haven. He was the first manager of the Cat’s Caboose, as well as owning & operating the Cat’n’ooga Choo Choo Roadhouse. He later worked for TRW, retiring after 26 years.
Heartfelt gratitude to the Walker Family Cancer Centre, all of the amazing nurses & medical professionals (especially 5B & 3B) who have helped Gerry during his battle, Drs. Bukhari, Claydon, and especially Dr. Mary Salib.

Cremation has been entrusted to George Darte Funeral Chapel, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines.
