Alyxandrea Anne Duncan

July 20, 1981 - October 20, 2023

Alyx Duncan passed away after a lengthy illness at the NHS St. Catharine's site. She was born in Oshawa On., in July 1981 and moved with her parents to St. Catharines at age 7. She is the daughter of Mom, Maureen Redman (nee Hallett/Duncan) and Dad, Glenn Redman and Father, Andrew (Drew) Duncan who predeceased her in 1994. She was predeceased by all grandparents, Shirley and Murray Hallett and Deborah and Andrew Duncan, Sr. With her Mom's marriage, she was lucky enough to get a bonus set of Grandparents in Barbara and Andy Redman, who loved her also.

She will be greatly missed by her Sister, Liz Jenkins (Jordan) and was Auntie to Eli and Everett Jenkins. Alyx is survived by many Uncles, Aunts and cousins of the Duncan Clan, and especially loved by Karen Hart and Paula Ashworth. There are also many in the Redman/Pokorny families, whom she came to love. Aunts Nancy Maynes (John), Lorri Potter and cousins in the Hallett/Potter families are those who loved Alyx without condition.

Alyx was a graduate of Ridley College, Sir Winston Churchill High School, Niagara College and Brock University. Her education took her into the field of Graphic design, which she enjoyed immensely.

Alyx had a quirky sense of humour, a love of music and movies, and cooking shows which we always found odd since she did not like to cook.  She enjoyed spending time with her friends in local hot spots. Her many friends tell me they thought of her as someone who was kind, generous, and would help anyone who needed it. Her smile would light up a room and she never met a stranger. Alyx was quiet in her activism and could be found at many rallies for causes she believed in; Indigenous Peoples, women's health issues, the plight of New Canadians and the Homeless. She volunteered many times at a variety of companies to assist them with marketing or posters or any graphic arts projects. Alyx never saw the colour of someone’s skin, their religion or their circumstances and only wanted people to live and love how they wanted without judgement.

Her family wishes to thank the Doctors, Nurses and PSW’s and all staff who helped her during her illness and times in the St. Catharine's hospital this past year. Her care was exceptional, and all staff treated her with kindness, compassion and went above and beyond to try to help her get well.

Her family wishes to thank George Darte Funeral Home for taking Alyx into their care on her journey with the utmost dignity and respect.

At her request, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service. A private family event will take place at a later date.

In honour of Alyx’s memory donations may be made to the Lincoln County Humane Society in her name. Alyx’s beloved Fur Baby, Lula Bell would be grateful - as her Mom always said to her as she grew up and made her repeat as she asked for yet another animal - “When I grow up and have a place of my own, I can have as many animals as I want”.
