Obituary of Peter George Horne
Born February 26, 1932 in Niagara Falls, Peter soon moved to St. Catharines where he attended Ridley College, developed lifelong friendships, established himself in the Insurance business and in the St. Catharines community. He was a lifelong skier and tennis player, a storyteller with a wonderful sense of humour, kind-hearted, and always greeted you with the warmest of smiles – qualities that stayed with him to the end. Peter met his beloved Joyce at the St. Catharines Tennis Club where she quickly won his heart. They remained devoted to one another throughout their 55 years of marriage and enjoyed an enviable social life. His second love was the cottage on Muldrew Lake where he put his skills as a carpenter’s apprentice to work between an early morning paddle, a lunchtime swim, sailing the Lark in the afternoon, evening cocktails on the dock, family dinners, and bridge nights. Above all, Peter was a family man who gave freely of his time, energy and love in all things that involved Joyce, the kids and, later, the grandkids.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Peter’s dedicated and loving caregivers at Tabor Manor. You were a blessing to all of us, most especially in his final days.
A funeral will take place on Friday, November 17th, at St. George’s Anglican Church, 83 Church Street, St. Catharines. The service will begin at 11 am, with visitation starting at 10 am at the front of the church.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. George’s Church, in memory of Peter.
