Obituary of Edward Soltysiak
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Edward Soltysiak on November 10, 2023. Edward was a wonderful person who will be greatly missed by everyone that met him. Edward was a cherished husband of Matylda, a beloved father of Marek (Hania), Urszula, and Piotr (Dorota); a beloved godfather to Wandzia, and an adored grandfather of Kuba (Ema), Philip (Kelsey), Tomek, Ania, Agnieszka, Joasia, Max, Maja, and Martin; and a great-grandfather to Eliza and Zosia.
Edward was born in 1926 in Poland into a large family. Education was very important to him and following WWII and his subsequent service in the army, he resumed his studies, ultimately graduating with a law degree from University of Wroclaw. Although Edward did not pursue a career in law, he worked as an accountant in Poland for many years.
At age 50, he immigrated to Canada with his family and settled in St.Catharines. He worked at Hinterhoeller Yachts for many years until his retirement.
Edward loved his family and enjoyed his hobbies. He was a skilled gardener and was rightly proud of his beautiful garden. He enjoyed spending time there with his cherished wife Matylda. Edward was also a voracious reader. He read numerous books on history, politics, religion, and enjoyed discussing these subjects with others.
Edward was a devout Catholic and a long-standing and respected member of his parish. He had a strong faith and espoused Christian family values. He led by example and preferred a simple stoic life. He had an affable personality and a great sense of humour. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and instilled in them the values of education, morality, and faith.
Edward was a true gentleman. He was intelligent, warm, and very caring. His death has left a great void in our hearts. Thankfully, he left us with countless, lovely memories. Edward will be deeply missed by his family, friends and acquaintances.
Visitations will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2023, from 2pm to 4pm, and 6pm to 8pm at George Darte Funeral Chapel, 585 Carlton, St., in St.Catharines. Vigil prayers at 6pm.
