Obituary of Suzanne Marguerite O'Callaghan
SUZANNE MARGUERITE O’CALLAGHAN
Passed away peacefully at the age of 64 at Hospice Niagara, St. Catharines, on Friday November 24, 2023, surrounded by family. She heroically battled brain cancer for 18 months. She never surrendered her faith, grace, wit and calming influence on those around her.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 39 years, Desmond and their beloved children Conor (Alicia), Sean (Chelsey) and Kathleen (Brock). She was a beautiful and generous Nan to her grandchildren River, Quinn and Rowan. She will be missed by her loving siblings Georgia (Glenn), Cathy (Jim), Charles (Lorrie) and Danielle (Perry) and their families, as well as cousins in Ontario and Massachusetts. She had countless friends over the years, from childhood in Mississauga and Niagara-on-the-Lake, university years in Kingston, 32 very happy years in Georgetown and, more recently, retired life in St. Catharines. Everyone who ever knew her will remember her for unselfishness, innate generosity of spirit, loyalty and good humour.
Suzanne’s life incorporated a brief career in business, 10 glorious years as a stay-at-home mom, followed by an accomplished career in education, progressing from classroom volunteer, to Educational Assistant and eventually as a fully qualified teacher, first in the classroom and latterly teaching English as a second language. All her students loved her, for patience, positivity, encouragement and enthusiasm.
The family would like to acknowledge with gratitude the superb care and comfort provided by every single staff member at Hospice Niagara, who looked after Suzanne to the end.
The family will recieve friends on Sunday, December 3rd from 2-4 & 6-8pm at the George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton St., Vigil Prayers at 6 pm. Funeral Mass on Monday morning, Dember 4th at 11am. at Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, 34 Eglin St. Cremation to follow
Flowers gratefully declined. To celebrate Suzanne, kindly consider a donation made in her memory to Hospice Niagara Or the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada.
Additionally, the family will also host a celebration of life gathering at a location and on a date to be determined and which will be publicized well in advance.
