Obituary of Loretta Valerie Bauer
LORETTA VALERIE BAUER
Aug. 21, 1923 – Nov. 24, 2023
Passed away at Tabor Manor in St. Catharines with her family beside her on Friday, November 24, 2023 at the age of 100 years and 94 days. Beloved mother of Paul and Ping (late Marjorie), Joan (late John Salvalzo), Robert (Shelley). Also survived by her brother Ronald Labatte. Grandmother to Shirley Ann Porga (Dan), Lynda Bauer, John Salvalzo and Jeffrey Salvalzo. Pre-deceased by daughter Mary (Joe Bukovac) and sister Anne Rowan, grandchildren Denise Gare, James Gare and Eric Salvalzo; brothers Andre, Leonard, Louis, Bernard and Thomas Labatte. Beloved great-grandchildren including Brandon Porga (Lauren Pedle) and Justin Porga; many, many nieces and nephews and a big thank you to Sheila Massey, Barbara Labatte and Helena McNeil who were so devoted and looked after her for years even while she was still residing at her home, where she lived for 69 years. She adored and loved all her nieces and nephews. Also pre-deceased by very good friends Elsie Murphy, Phyllis Wright, Sophie Hughes and Sophie Bednarowski. Thanks to Doctors Candice Buetow and huge thank you to Dr. Elaine O’Rielly and ALL the staff of Tabor Manor where she resided for almost seven years.
While at Tabor Manor, she thrived and received the best possible care and attention we could ask for. She was a large part of the Tabor Family and to each and every person employed there, we extend our appreciation, love and promise to never forget how she loved her time there and we can’t begin to say “Thank You All” for just being yourselves. God Bless Every One of You!
Mom raised her four children by herself and taught us all how to treat people, have respect for elders, aided us in our homework, was a leader in Cubs and Scouts many, many years ago and also taught us how to swim, ride a bicycle and even to skate. She herself never owned or operated a motor vehicle but walked everywhere or rode her bicycle until she was 75 years old. In addition, she exercised a lot and her favorite things to do were attend daily Mass as often as she could; spend time with her children, grandchildren and friends; loved playing euchre with her siblings and friends on Saturday nights … and later, in her 80’s even visited the local casino(s) once or twice a year.
She was blessed with good health most of her life and avoided hospitals from 1947 when she gave birth to her last child, until 2008 when she broke her hip for the first of three times. She was somewhat “accident prone” and all of her family relished in the many calamities she endured over the years.
She was a modest, humble, attractive woman who dedicated herself to her family and for 60 years was employed by Mr. and Mrs. Ben Newman of St. Catharines and later worked for their children Francine and Ron Williams along with Denise and Mark Newman.
Above all she was consistent, humorous, loving, true to her faith, family and friends. Heaven is your new Home Mom. Enjoy eternity with those you know and you are sure to make many new friends. While you were on this planet – You Were Loved!
Bye Mom
