Obituary of John Holierhoek
Holierhoek, John - It is with profound sadness that John’s family share his passing on Tuesday, November 28th in his 91st year. He will be greatly missed by his loving children; Alodia (Joerg), Hubert, Fred (Susan) and Adrienne (D’Arcy); grandchildren Aurelia, Kara, Joshua, Riley, Colin and Evan; siblings; Sienie van Oosten, Simon (Agnes) Holierhoek, Coby (Matt) Huibers, Anna Poyton, Hubert Holierhoek, Cornie (Linda) Holierhoek, and Adrian (Jayne) Holierhoek. John is predeceased by his wife, Leny Holierhoek; his parents, Adrianna and Hubert Holierhoek; siblings, Nick (Gerry) Holierhoek, Wilhelmina (Peter) Douma, Hank (Joan) Holierhoek, and brothers-in-law, Bill van Oosten and Jim Poyton. John is also much loved by his dear friend Colleen Hayes and the extended Hayes family.
John immigrated to Canada from the Netherlands with his family 70 years ago, an event that was celebrated this spring by the extended Holierhoek Family. He was a gentle and patient dad/papa, husband, Opa/Grandpa and brother who brought lightness and humour to everything he did. John was passionate about music and spent much of his life in Niagara active in choirs and music organizations, including Garden City Productions, Chorus Niagara, and St. Mary’s Church, where he served as the Music Director until 1992.
Memorial remembrances to The Chorus Niagara Children’s Choir would be appreciated by the family.
