Obituary of Maria Nicola Di Maria

It is with great sadness the family announce that Maria Di Maria (nee Mascia) began her journey into the arms of the Lord in her 90th year on Wednesday, December 6th with family at her side. Reunited with her husband of 67 years, Mercurio Di Maria; survived by her children, Anselmo, Mario (Sandra), Anna (Roger), Tony (Kathy), Mike (Elinor), Ron and John (Tracy). Nonna of Stacey, Meighan; Matthew, Kristyn; Justin, Nicole and Jessica; Simon, Gillian; Taylor Teirney, Gavin; Emma, Abby; Katie and Daniel. Bisnonna to her 10 great-grandchildren. Sister of Rinaldo (late Vincenza) Mascia and sisters-in-law Fausta (late Giovanni) Mascia and Angiolina (Calogero) Barberi. Zia will be lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews and family here and in Italy. Predeceased by Maria is her brother, Antonio Mascia (Angela). A devout Catholic, Mamma, Nonna, Bisnonna, Zia these are only a few words that could best describe her. Maria was headstrong as she was kind and generous. She will forever be in our hearts and surrounded by the light of her Lord and family that predeceased her. The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all the extended family (staff) at Linhaven for the years of loving and compassionate care extended to Mamma/Nonna. “Mamma, speriamo che trovi pace durante il tuo ultimo viaggio. Ti vogliamo bene.” In keeping with Maria’s wishes, funeral arrangements have been entrusted with the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines. The family wish to invite family and friends for a time of visitation on Monday, December 11th 2023 from 2:00-4:00 pm with prayers at 3:00 pm and 6:30-8:00 pm in the funeral home. A Mass to be celebrated for Maria will be held on Tuesday, December 12th at St. Alfred’s Catholic Church, 272 Vine St., St. Catharines at 11:00 am followed by a burial at Victoria Lawn Cemetery.
