My deepest sympathy to the Passero family. We first met Vito in1989 when we were looking to purchase a home in St Catharines moving from Toronto. We came across Silvergates new builds on Stoneybrook Crescent and fell in love with the quality and pride Vito took in his work. He was an amazing gentle man who treated us like family. He ensured we had a smooth transition into our new home and no detail was spared. We lived in our home over 30 years. RIP Vito Dianne Zemsta

No one can ever prepare us for the loss of a loved one. My heart goes out to you and wish you nothing but comfort, strength and peace. Sending you all my love.
When travelling with Vito, he was always ready for the unexpected. He always carried five jackets, ranging from a parka to a wind breaker, regardless of temperature. His favourite saying was, "just incase, I never leave home without them".
Vito, I will miss our frequent outings and telephone conversations. I am thankful and cherish the beautiful memories that resulted from our unwavering friendship, along with our spouses, Vicki and Nick. Rest in peace my dear friend.

To the family of Vito:
A Gift: I was a site supervisor for Vito when my son Domenic was born. When he started toddling, I would bring him to work on Saturday mornings with me. This is where he met "Uncle Vito" and I took a backseat to their Saturday morning visits. They would walk around the site, holding hands and spent most of the time looking at 'Diggers' as Domenic called them.
One Saturday Vito gave Domenic a gift. It was a Catapillar master key. He explained that this magic key could start any machine and that when he was old enough, he could learn to operate these great machines! This key became my son's greatest treasure, showing and explaining to everyone that would listen. For all we know he may still have it today!
A simple gift with so much impact! I have also received a great gift from Vito. Home building is an apprenticeship. We are constantly learning and evolving and improving. The lessons I learned from Vito while I was at Silvergate Homes have made a monumental impact on me in how I manage people and procedures and are part of the fabric of my business and how I operate it. Vito was a truly great mentor.
Many years later, I had the honour of presenting Vito with his plaque as one of the inaugural members of the NHBA Hall of Fame! I am not sure which one of us was more proud! A smile, a long hug, and an appreciation of a great accomplishment are a memory that I will always cherish. A True Gentleman. Rest in Peace Friend. Tony, Rebecca, Domenic & Robert Alfieri

Mary Kala posted a condolence

I am heartbroken upon hearing of the passing of Vito Passero. I first met Vito when he would come into our Home Hardware store. He always had a cheeky grin and a devilish glint in his eye. As my department was the first he would pass by he would always stop and joke and chat with me. He came into the the store one day without his usual grin and told me he had lost his beloved wife. I listened him talk about her and share so many memories for about half an hour, when he was done I gave him a big hug and he was on his way. About six or seven years Vito did some private business with my husband Victor and would come to our home to sit and discuss the details. On one of these occasions he had learned it was my birthday the day he was coming over and stopped and got me a card, an orchid and a bottle of red wine, this touched me greatly. The last time I spoke to Vito was in May while my husband was in the hospital, he called to see how I was and how Vic was doing he said he would like to come by sometime soon and share a bottle of wine I told him anytime the door was always open for him. Sadly we never did. I want to extend our deep sympathies to his family he was an amazing man one of a kind. Sincerely Vic and Mary Kala

My heart sunk when I heard about the passing of Vito! Vito was such an amazing man. He was kind, caring and compassionate. He always made me smile whenever I saw him. Vito was more than just a landlord to us, he was like family! He always took care of us and made sure we had everything we needed! From fresh cut flowers, to picking fresh vegetables from his garden out back to his monthly checkins to make sure we were all good! I will miss his smile the most. My heart goes out to his entire family and everyone who knew him! You will be greatly missed Vito!
Sincerely,
Charmaine, Rodney and Noah

John, Michael and Susan, we were so heartbroken to have heard of your dad's passing. He was a true gentleman in every respect! I dearly loved both your mom and your dad. I first met your dad (through mine) at the tender age of 5. I also remember visiting or at least "seeing" your parents in their 1st home in west St. Catharines. I remember thinking, wow, they looked like movie stars, both so gorgeous in their own right! Fast forward many years later, we had the pleasure of connecting again in Florida with your mom and dad and my inlaws....it was beautiful! Great memories for sure! Well....your dad is now finally reunited with his beloved Vicki! May he rest in eternal peace. Our very sincere and heartfelt sympathies go out to each of you during this very difficult time. Prayers for strength, Elena and Joe Carlomusto.
