Obituary of John Glumac
It is with heavy hearts and great sorrow that the family announces the peaceful passing of John “Ivan” Glumac on Thursday, January 11th 2024 in his 93rd year with family at his side. Cherished spouse of the late Mary Glumac; father of, Rina (Greg), John (Betty), Stephen and Peter (Cheryl). Loving Nonno of Kata (Shelby), Maya (Brad), Andrea (Antoni), Kristopher, Pierce, Carter and Reed. “GG” of Blake, Kylan, Noah, Jakson, Mateo and Everett. Dear brother of Antoni (Frana) and Margaret Fantela; brother-in-law to Jo-Ann (Jerry) and Elke and George. John will be missed by many nieces and nephews in Australia and Canada. John was predeceased by his granddaughter Arden and brothers-in-law Kruno and Joe and sister-in-law Andrina; parents Petar and Kata Glumac. Immigrating to Canada from Lastovo, Croatia in 1951, John married Mary and raised their family in the Niagara Region. Retiring from Foster Wheeler after a successful career he became a founding member of the Croatian National Centre and was an avid parishioner of St. Alfred’s Church. John enjoyed playing bocce ball, watching soccer and slapping cards.
In keeping with John’s wishes, funeral arrangements have been entrusted with the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines. The family welcomes guests for a time of visitation on Sunday, January 14th from 1:00 – 4:00PM with prayers at 3:00PM and from 6:00 - 8:00PM in the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 15th at 11:00AM at St. Alfred's Church, 272 Vine St., followed by an entombment at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. If desired, consider making donations to the Hospice Niagara in memory of John.
