Obituary of Catherine Cecelia Sheehan

At the age of 99, Catherine Cecelia Sheehan (nee Towns) passed away peacefully at Maple Park Lodge, Fort Erie on January 18, 2024.Cecile was born at her family farm in Douro, Ontario on September 21, 1924. She was predeceased by parents John and Margaret (nee Ryan), sisters Mary, Fran, Theresa and brother, Joe. Cecile had many fond memories of growing up with her family. She became a teacher at the age of 17 and taught in one-room school houses in Douro and Deloro, Ontario. Cecile then moved to St. Catharines, met and married Bernard Sheehan in 1954. They bought their first house there and started a family. Widowed in 1967, Cecile raised six children while managing the family business of Snow White Cleaning Services until her retirement. Cecile was a very positive and inspirational person to others. Most important to her were family and faith. She enjoyed the company of her friends and neighbours and also loved travelling, dances and Irish music. Always with a smile, Cecile loved to start her mornings with a coffee while visiting with friends at Tim Hortons.Loving mother of Gregg, Terry, Dan (Carol), Bern (Rob), Elaine (Bob dec.), Jim. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Amy (Monte), Kyla, Jessica (Mark), Kim (Shawn), Chris, Shaun (Mandy), Patrick, Shannon, Erin, Stacey (Steve), Michelle, Kyle. Great grandmother to Poppy, Millie, Caleb, Cole, Indie, Cora, Hailey and baby Sheehan in May. Also, survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Cecile will be missed by all those she loved and touched deeply. Visitation with be on Friday, January 26, 2024 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at George Darte Funeral Home, 595 Carlton Street, St. Catharines. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Julia Church, 251 Glenridge Ave., St. Catharines. Burial at Victoria Lawn Cemetery to follow.  Reception to follow at 11:30 a.m. at George Darte Funeral Home. The family would like to thank Dr. Sher and the Robin Parkway staff at Maple Park Lodge. At Cecile’s request, if friends so wish, memorial donations may be made in her name to the Niagara SPCA and Animal Humane Society.
