Obituary of Johanna Hameka-Hutton
It is with great sorrow the Hameka family announces the peaceful passing of Johanna Hameka-Hutton (nee de Grand) at Hospice Niagara on Sunday, January 21st 2024 in her 94th year with family at her side. Cherished wife of the late Glenn Hutton (2013); loving mother of Johanna (Bob) Neff, Simon (Linda) Hameka, John Hameka and Martin (Marianne) Hameka; adoring Oma of Dustin and Christy (Richard) Hillier, Tom (Katie) Hameka and Brandon and Jordon Akey; great-Oma of Theo and Jack Hillier, great-grandmother of Aurora and Paige Hameka; and many nieces and nephews in the Netherlands. Predeceased by Johanna is her first husband Simon Hameka (2003) and her parents
Cornelis and Grietje de Grand and siblings, Frouk Smit, Gre Hartog, Tine Kolvers and Cees de Grand.
In 1957 the family of four, Simon Sr, Johanna Sr and Johanna and Simon Jr. emigrated from Zaandam NH Netherlands, settling in Ontario Canada. John and Martin, born in Grimsby Ontario later enlarged the family.
Johanna was very creative and enjoyed working with her hands. She was an avid listener of Classical music and reading.
The family wishes to give special thanks to the nurses and staff at Hospice Niagara who gave exceptional care to mom up until the end.
In keeping with the family’s wishes, funeral arrangements have been entrusted with the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines. A private family burial will take place at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the Hospice Niagara in memory of Johanna.
