Obituary of Roman Szpunar
September 20, 1951 – January 30, 2024
Roman Szpunar, of St. Catharines, ON, passed away peacefully at Hospice Niagara on January 30, 2024 at the age of 72. His battle with cancer demonstrated his ability to face life’s challenges with courage, strength, and humour.
Roman was born in Warsaw, Poland where he met his wife and started his family. He was an adventurous spirit who spent years travelling and working across Europe before immigrating to Canada with his family in 1984. Roman had a successful career as a mechanical engineer and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also loved a good hat.
Roman is predeceased by his parents, Stanisław and Anna (née Hulak) and his younger brother, Krzysztof. He is survived by his wife, Hanna (née Gajewska); his children, Karl (Shamindra), Piotr (Jennifer), and Monika (Mike). He was a loving Dziadek to Florence, Issy, Maya, Lily, Lukas, and Nathan. Roman will be missed and cherished in our memories.
A funeral mass to honour Roman will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in St. Catharines on Saturday, February 3 at 10am, followed by a procession to Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Reception to follow at Johnny Rocco’s Restaurant at 271 Merritt St. in St. Catharines.
