Obituary of Sylvanus Foday Kpanabom
With heavy hearts and great sorrow, the family wishes to announce the peaceful passing of Sylvanus Foday Kpanabom at the NHS-Welland Hospital in his 82nd year with family at his side. Cherished father to, Foday Kpanabom, Moses Kpanabom, Ndaneh Kpanabom, Joe Kpanabom and Nancy Kpanabom; adoring grandfather to Abinesha Kpanabom, Anayah Frimpong, Gideon Jr. Frimpong, Abena Frimpong, Saffie Kpanabom and Harmony Kpanabom; brother to Sam King; uncle to Thomas Kpanabom and many more in Sierra Leone. Sylvanus had the opportunity to attend the American Mission School for Boys and then studied in the Sentential Secondary School in Mattru Jong in Sierra Leone. He then left for Europe to continue his studies which allowed him to travel to Canada as a citizen of the British Commonwealth of Nations. Enrolling in the Brock University, where he obtained his first Degree and further received his Honours in Business Administration and Master's Degree from the University of Windsor. After a successful career, Sylvanus retired which allowed him the opportunity to enjoy his hobbies and spend time with friends and families. The epitome of strength, resiliency and overall humanitarian, Sylvanus never saw barriers and allowed the opportunist in him overcome the obstacles that have presented themselves over the years.
Thank you to his dear friends, James & Gus, Mike & Philip Courts, and Adama, the amazing healthcare workers at the Walkers Family Cancer Centre. A many thank you to many others both far and near for all their encouragement and support over the years.
In keeping with Sylvanus’ wishes, funeral arrangements have been entrusted with the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines. The family welcomes a time of gathering on Wednesday, April 3rd 2024 from 7:00-9:00pm in the funeral home. A funeral service to commemorate Sylvanus’ life will be held Thursday, April 4th 2024 beginning at 11:00am in the funeral home ceremony room with burial to follow at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Please consider making a memorial donation to Niagara Folk Arts Multicultural Centre and/or the Walker Family Cancer Centre in honour of Sylvanus’ Life.
