Obituary of Robert Dyck
DYCK, Robert - Bob slipped away peacefully with his family by his side at the Hotel Dieu Shaver on Wednesday September 26, 2012. He was 78 years old. Beloved husband of the late Catherine; loving father and father-in-law of Paul and Sarah; Stephen and Sandra; Jim and Patti; grandfather of Jonah, Gracie, Alison and Julia; brother of Frederick. Noted as a smart, kind, and witty man, Bob was generous in contributing time and energy as an Optimist club member, adult literacy teacher, Out of the Cold team member, and school volunteer. His empathy for others may have resulted from his support of losing causes such as the Cleveland Browns and the Toronto Maple Leafs; he was renowned for his skills at the grill and in the garden (†œDandelions? I can't afford them.†œ) Bob's many, many deep and lasting friendships helped with the loss of Cath and with the health issues that dominated his final years, but which he refused to let define him. Family and friends will be received at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street on Wednesday October 3 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with vigil prayers held at 3 p.m. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Alfred's Church on Thursday at 11 a.m. with cremation to follow. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Grantham Optimist Club would be appreciated by his family
